    About the CUET Exam

CUET UG is the common entrance test for undergraduate admission to central and participating universities. Candidates take a language section, one or more domain subjects matching their intended course, and the General Test, with universities setting their own subject combinations and cut-offs.

The scoring is what makes CUET distinctive: +5 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. A five-to-one ratio makes informed attempts unusually valuable and blind guessing unusually costly. MockPrep CUET mocks follow the NTA pattern, cover English, the General Test and 14+ domain subjects, and return subject-wise analysis so you can see which of your chosen papers is holding back your profile.

CUET Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

At +5 / −1, one correct answer offsets five wrong ones — so an educated attempt after eliminating two options is usually worth making, while a pure guess still is not.

    CUET Syllabus Breakdown

What each subject covers, and where to focus your hours first

    Language (English)

    • Reading comprehension (factual, narrative, literary)
    • Vocabulary
    • Synonyms and antonyms
    • Rearranging parts
    • Verbal ability

Where to focus: Comprehension speed is the constraint. Practise reading a passage once and answering without re-reading.

    Domain Subjects

    • Physics
    • Chemistry
    • Mathematics
    • Biology
    • Accountancy
    • Business Studies
    • Economics
    • History
    • Political Science
    • Geography
    • Psychology
    • Sociology
    • Computer Science
    • Physical Education

Where to focus: Domain papers follow the NCERT Class 12 syllabus closely. Your board preparation is the same preparation — mocks convert it into exam speed.

    General Test

    • General knowledge and current affairs
    • General mental ability
    • Numerical ability
    • Quantitative reasoning
    • Logical and analytical reasoning

Where to focus: Many universities weigh the General Test heavily. It is often the section candidates neglect and then lose admission on.

How to Use Mock Tests to Improve Your CUET Score

Treat every mock like the real thing

Sit for the full test in one uninterrupted block, with a clock running and no notes open. A mock taken in pieces tells you what you know; a mock taken under exam conditions tells you what you can actually produce on exam day, which is the only number that matters.

    Confirm your subject combination early

Universities specify which CUET subjects they accept for each course. Choosing your domain papers around the courses you actually want prevents months of misdirected preparation.

    Use the +5 asymmetry

With five marks for a correct answer against one lost, an attempt where you have eliminated two options is mathematically sound. A blind guess across four live options is not. Practise making that distinction explicitly during mocks.

Do not neglect the General Test

Domain preparation overlaps with board study, so it tends to crowd out the General Test. Schedule it deliberately — it is frequently the section that decides the final merit position.

    Convert board knowledge into speed

CUET asks NCERT content under a clock. Timed mocks are the bridge between knowing the chapter and answering it in forty seconds.

Which CUET domain subjects are available?

    +

14+ domain subjects are supported, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, History, Political Science and more. You select your subject before starting a test.

Is the CUET syllabus the same as my board syllabus?

    +

Domain papers follow the NCERT Class 12 syllabus closely, so board preparation transfers directly. The difference is pace — CUET asks the same content under a tight clock.

How much does the General Test matter?

    +

It depends on your target course, but many universities weigh it substantially. Because it does not overlap with board study, it is the section most often under-prepared.

    Should I guess in CUET?

    +

Guess when you have eliminated at least two options — the +5 / −1 ratio makes informed attempts worthwhile. Avoid guessing across four live options.

Can I practise one domain subject at a time?

    +

Yes. You can take a focused test on a single subject or mix English, General Test and your domain subject.

Does the mock follow the NTA pattern?

    +

Yes, including the official +5 / −1 marking scheme.
