Explore JEE Advanced
JEE Advanced is the entrance examination used for undergraduate admission to the IITs. Candidates first satisfy the current JEE Main eligibility criterion, then sit two compulsory papers that test Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics through multi-step, mixed-format problems.
The paper design can vary between cycles, so preparation should prioritise concept depth, flexible problem solving and careful reading rather than memorising one fixed distribution. MockPrep topic practice supports that foundation; candidates should use the current organising IIT brochure and official past papers for the exact cycle rules.
JEE Advanced does not guarantee one permanent question or marking pattern. Read every section instruction and verify the current brochure on the official website.
| Section | Question type | Marks | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | Mixed objective and numerical formats | Scheme varies by section | Multi-concept reasoning and numerical work |
| Chemistry | Mixed objective and numerical formats | Scheme varies by section | Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry |
| Mathematics | Mixed objective and numerical formats | Scheme varies by section | Algebra, Calculus, Geometry and Vectors |
What each subject covers, and where to focus your hours first
Where to focus: Translate principles across unfamiliar situations and connect multiple chapters in one solution.
Where to focus: Combine precise recall with mechanism-based and quantitative reasoning across all three branches.
Where to focus: Build complete derivations and practise switching methods when the first route becomes too long.
Sit for the full test in one uninterrupted block, with a clock running and no notes open. A mock taken in pieces tells you what you know; a mock taken under exam conditions tells you what you can actually produce on exam day, which is the only number that matters.
After learning a chapter, solve problems that combine it with earlier material. JEE Advanced rewards choosing and connecting principles more than repeating a familiar template.
Marking and answer formats can differ within the same paper. Spend the opening minutes identifying partial-mark and negative-mark conditions before deciding attempt order.
Schedule full simulations with the official break between Paper 1 and Paper 2. Accuracy under the second paper's fatigue is part of readiness.
Topic collections build depth, but official previous papers remain the clearest evidence of wording, integration and difficulty. Review them by concept as well as by score.
These bands come from the same percentile model the app uses after every test. They are estimates for tracking improvement, not official cut-offs.
| Score in mock | Estimated percentile | Standing | Indicative rank band |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25% | 42.1 | Top 58% | 1,30,275 – 1,59,225 |
| 40% | 78.8 | Top 21% | 47,700 – 58,300 |
| 55% | 96.4 | Top 4% | 8,100 – 9,900 |
| 70% | 99.7 | Top 0.3% | 675 – 825 |
| 85% | 100 | Top 0.1% | 1 – 0 |

Yes. The questions focus on the deeper concepts, multi-step reasoning, and difficulty expected in JEE Advanced preparation.
Every mixed test covers Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and you can also choose an individual subject for focused practice.
Yes. After submitting, you receive detailed solutions and a subject-wise breakdown of your performance.
No single marking template is guaranteed. The official paper gives section-specific rules, which can include full, partial, zero and negative marks.
Yes. Candidates must appear in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 for evaluation under the current examination framework.
Use them to expose concept gaps, then progress to mixed-topic sets and complete official papers. Topic accuracy alone does not reproduce the integration or fatigue of the two-paper examination.
